It’s a busy time of year for us, with 2 important conferences taking place in short succession: AMCP and ISPOR. As always, you’ll see our subject matter experts participating in a variety of scientific presentations, including posters, educational sessions, issue panels, and workshops. Below are just a few highlights from each that we’d like to share.
At AMCP’s annual meeting in Boston, April 23-26, PHE Senior Economist Jason Shafrin presented “New Tools for Measuring Treatment Value in Rheumatoid Arthritis.” Joined by Precision Xtract co-presenter Jeroen Jansen, along with Jeffrey Curtis, Professor of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, this education session was moderated by Jonathan Collar from Cigna-HealthSpring and featured a discussion of tools available to managed care pharmacists to measure the value of RA treatments, as well as how to use those tools to inform cost and utilization management strategies. Drs. Shafrin, Jansen, and Curtis also discussed how information on patient clinical markers may help inform targeted utilization management programs.
At ISPOR, to be held in Baltimore May 19-23, Darius Lakdawalla will moderate the special issue panel, “Should We Move Beyond Conventional Cost-Effectiveness Analysis? If So, How?” Joined by PHE Scientific Advisor Peter Neumann, Precision Xtract’s Jeroen Jansen, and Charles E. Phelps, this panel will discuss alternative approaches to improving the flexibility and responsiveness of healthcare technology assessment, with particular focus on the role of multicriteria decision analysis and of flexible, open-source decision models.
PHE authors will also be presenting a number of posters at ISPOR—for complete details, please visit our website here.
If you are planning to attend ISPOR, be sure to stop by the convention floor and see us in booth 701—we’d love to speak with you. Better yet, make an appointment to speak with one of our experts. We’ll have many of our best and brightest at ISPOR, so please let us know what your challenge is, and we will pair you with an expert. Schedules are filling up fast, so don’t hesitate to contact us to set something up soon.
Of course, if you’d like to chat with an expert more informally, plan to join us for Precision’s ISPOR social event, to be held on Tuesday, May 22 from 7:30 to 11:00 PM at the Watertable Ground Floor Lounge of the Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel. Many of our experts will be attending, and you can look forward to speaking with an HEOR heavyweight while enjoying some of Baltimore’s finest food, drink, and live music. We hope to see you there!
