Alzheimer’s Association Report on Value of Early Diagnosis
PHE collaborated with the Alzheimer’s Association to model the long-term economic impact to Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers associated with early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease, using PHE’s proprietary THEMIS model.
The research was published as a special report by the Alzheimer’s Association as part of its 2018 Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures report. Modeling the potential benefits of early diagnosis for the current US population, the PHE and Alzheimer’s Association team found that $7.9 trillion in cost savings could be achieved if the disease was diagnosed at the early stage of mild cognitive impairment. These results have implications for the value of Alzheimer’s disease treatments and diagnostics. The study on the value of early diagnosis was covered by major media outlets, such as Bloomberg.
